Character Background:
Redglare, being a minor character, lacks a large amount of background. Using canon as well as speculation based on her decedent’s life, I've cobbled something together that isn't completely stupid. Homestuck has a lot of circular logic, so a lot of this can hold up rather easily. I'll be marking the most dubious shit in teal.
In another life, Redglare was a member of a more peaceful race of trolls who participated in a game of Sgrub which destroyed their home planet and gave them an opportunity to create a new universe for themselves. However something went wrong, everything failed and they had to Scratch the game. The terms that Echidna gave them were this: They could stay in their domed session, or they could reset their game and have a better chance winning the next time around. The catch was that they wouldn't be the ones playing, it would be their ancestors. Roles would be switched and Redglare would become the woman she is today.
So unlike most trolls, Redglare wasn't hatched in the Brooding Caverns of the troll race. Due to her role in the game of Sgurb she arrived on Alternia in a meteor, somehow unharmed. This is because Karkat Vantas, the player in a Sgrub session, was responsible for ectobiologically cloning the trolls of his session from the genetic material of their ancestors, and also making sure that they all came into existence in the first place. However, she did pupate and undergo The Trials like most (and I only say most because of the Sufferer), surviving to be granted a lusus. Unlike her descendant, Terezi, it is doubtful that Redglare had to wait for her lusus to hatch as Terezi was a special circumstance and Redglare was not.
Because of her parental role, Redglare has a great affection for her lusus and even gave her a name, Pyralspite, which is how Terezi named her plush scalemate. However, the fact of the matter is having this dragon for a lusus is probably what cost Redglare her sight in the first place. Dragons on Alternia are blind, but we still see Pyralspite open her eyes in [S] Seer: Ascend and they are so intense that they are represented the same way as the sun was in [S] Make her pay and are responsible for burning out the eye Mindfang used for her vision 8-fold just like the sun blinded Terezi. See, things in Homestuck tend to run in circles. Mindfang lost and arm and an eye to Redglare, and Vriska lost an arm and an eye to Terezi. However, it's doubtful that Redglare lost hers in exactly the same way because she wasn't involved with Mindfang the way Terezi was with Vriska. While Terezi lost her eyesight via staring at the sun, it is possible Redglare lost her own by staring into her Lusus' eyes. It'd certainly be suitable, seeing as the dragon apparently has eyes like a miniature sun, and it's also likely to happen due to her position as Redglare's lusus. Again with the circular reasoning and events in Homestuck, Redglare learned to "see" similar to how Terezi did (her lusus taught her how to see using smell and taste to make a blurry picture of the world).
Like most of her caste, Redglare became a civil servant. In her case, she was drawn to The Law, and thus, went into a career as a Legislacerator. Legislacerators are the long arm of the law on Alternia. Their entire job is finding criminals, ruining their shit, and dragging them kicking and screaming into the courtblock and to their execution. Defense attorneys don't exist on Alternia because there is no need for them. Everyone a legislacerator drags back is always guilty. Redglare is relatively low in the rank of the Legislacerators, being only a Neophyte ('neo' meaning new, denoting that she is a novice). However, when Mindfang mentions her initially in her journal, she noted that Redglare is "reported to 8e quite talented", which reveals itself to be extremely true.
Using the information Dualscar gave to the Subjuggulators about the location of Mindfang's fleet of Gamblignants, Redglare uses her lusus to lay waste to Mindfang's entire fleet. Pyralspite burns and sinks every single ship in the fleet before Redglare boards Mindfang's own flagship while it is on fire and cuts off her arm so she can't fight back after her dragon burns out Mindfang’s 8-pupiled eye. She drags Mindfang into her courtblock in order to have her executed in front of a large crowd, only for Mindfang to use her mind control powers to have her hung from the gallows by the noose she had prepared for Mindfang.
Sometime before all this, while she was still alive, it is revealed that Redglare was part of a cult that followed the Signless' teachings. Like every single follower of his, she kept this a close secret because of the persecution that followers of his beliefs would face, and also because it would no doubt ruin her standing in the Legislacerators. Chances are, the reason she gravitated towards the Signless' teachings is because he preached about Alternia as it was before the Scratch, about how everyone was equal. Being interested in the law, which was supposed to prosecute equally but rarely did due to the preference of highbloods over lowbloods (which is one of the reasons Mindfang got to be a pirate for as long as she did), the possibility that everyone could be equal in the eyes of the law is most likely what intrigued her in the first place and caused her to subvert (NOT BREAK) the law to become a follower. (Terezi has the similar views when it comes to the law, as she doesn't see why Vriska should get away with hanging trolls that are innocent just because she needs to feed her lusus and is also a blue-blood.)
Though Redglare died, she did leave something behind, her lusus, which would later be used by the Summoner in a final revolution lead by himself (and possibly Mindfang) that would eventually fail and cause the exile of all mature trolls from their home planet to the Alternian Spacefleet. Redglare left her legacy behind in one place, Mindfang's diary, which was eventually bestowed upon her descendant, Vriska. Though Vriska, Redglare's descendent, Terezi Pyrope would eventually learn about her ordeals and model a FLARP character after her.
Abilities/Special Powers:
Synesthesia: Like Terezi, Redglare is blind and has been taught to see by her lusus. Using her keen sense of smell she can generally paint a picture of what is going on around her, though it is typically blurry (think watercolor). When it comes to keener things, such as wanting to "see" what is written in a book, Redglare can lick the page and determine what is written based on the taste of the words. She can also use her blind person powers to smell when other people are lying. Additionally, her longer life has made her more accomplished at these things than Terezi, and her hearing is rather sharp as well.
Legislacerating: Due to her profession's requirements, Neophyte Redglare is an accomplished swordfighter. She doesn't have a particular style that can be equated to human swordfighting, her own being something of a mish-mash of what she picked up in her youth and what she learned as an adult. It mostly involves intimudating stances and moves that are used to cripple, knock out or otherewise incapacitate an opponent as fast as possible. It's not meant for killing, if only because her victims need to be alive to stand trial.
Troll Biology: Trolls are a naturally extremely hardy species, as they live on an extremely hostile planet. Vriska has no problem surviving the massive hemorrhaging that comes with losing an arm, and Tavros is able to survive being thrown off a cliff. It stands to reason that as an adult, Redglare is a good deal hardier than the children, though normally fatal things (shot through the heart, shot in the head, hung from the fucking gallows) will still kill her.
Third-Person Sample:
She can see him, though not quite. She can smell and taste the blueblood troll meandering about on the grass as if he owns the place. She can also smell a sign, though the words on it are blurry and she cannot make them out Redglare imagines they say 'KEEP OF THE GRASS'. She knows that this place is not for loitering, knows that the blue-blood is not supposed to be treading on the courtblock yard it were his own lawnring, and yet she is powerless to do anything about it.
Redglare didn't join the Legislacerators for power, or because she is a teal-blood and therefore destined to. She became a legislaceratior, and subsequently clawed her way up to the position of Neophyte, because she believes in the law. She believes unjust murder, though not all murder was unjust, should be punished. She believes that those who steal property from its rightful owners should have their feet cut off and their hands put in the stockades. She believes that the system should operate on an eye-for-an-eye basis, even if she has none of her own to really give. It doesn't matter, as Redglare would never break the law. She knows her way around the red tape too well to become tangled in it, and can carefully duck and weave in and out of it at her leisure.
However, that isn't the point. This man is breaking a rule. A minor law. No loitering in the yard of the courtblock. KEEP OFF THE GRASS. She can smell his mood on a breeze; carefree, cocksure, confident. Typical of a blueblood to think they are above the law. Except they don't just think, they know, and it disgusts her. A yellow-blood could commit this same crime and she would be expected to snap at their legs with her cane and haul them off to walk a yard on hot coals, but with the highbloods it is different. She is expected to ignore them or risk her position as a Neophyte due to their no doubt numerous connections. It is a lowly position, but she worked for it and someone had to die for her to come into her own.
So she smiles. Smiles so hard that it looks manic and crazy, and maybe that's okay. Maybe her devotion to the law (to His beliefs) is borderline insane. Certainly against basic survival instinct. Still, she knows it's right in her gut, in her heart, in her Mind. So she smiles, grits her teeth and presses the pendant under her uniform hard into her skin.
Then she gets up to talk to the blueblood. Talk to him up close.
First-Person Sample:
[Redglare looks displeased, and for those who have ever seen her, her displeasure is actually something quite odd to see. At least, the fact that it's visible is. She frowns, huffs, then sniffs around to get another feel of her surroundings and smiles like it all makes sense to her. Of course it doesn't at all, but she needs to make up for a failed initial impression.]
I'd consider my appearance here rather odd, were it not for the fact that where I was before was rather detrimental to my health.
[Not that she really needs to worry about that anymore, considering the whole "being dead" thing.]
It's still rather unpleasant as far as sudden happenings go, but I would appreciate some sort of explanation or tour. Perhaps even a way back to where I was. Not exactly where I was, mind you. Maybe a few feet forward. And a bit to the left.
[And a few feet down and off the noose, with her sword through Mindfang's heart. Ah, yes. That would be nice indeed. Her smile widens ever so slightly.]
Note: Everyone in Homestuck uses a quirk when they are communicating through text messaging. Redglare's own is a little more professional than her decedent’s. She uses proper punctuation and no emoticons and replaces the letters G, L and S with the numbers 6, 1 and 2 respectively, regardless of whether or not the letters are capitalized. She uses bold teal Courier as her font. While Terezi uses the numbers of the "blind prophets" (413) in her quirk, I'm pretty sure that it's a bullshit tactic to jam more 413 numeral patterns into shit. The Trolls have their own arc number (612) which is what I intend to use to differentiate Redglare from Terezi.
Additionally, I've given her no real similarities to Latula, simply because I can't see any way that she could have grown up into any of Latula's characteristics, aside from maybe riding a dragon like it's a skateboard. For the most part, I'm assuming that the ancestors are completely different from the dancestors due to their circumstances.
